We’re excited to introduce a new AI tool to the platform — designed to help researchers build better search queries with less effort.
What it is:
It’s a powerful tool to help track new leads and increase efficiency, allowing users to spend more time on analysis and less time on constructing queries. This new feature refines and strengthens search terms, so users can get more complete, specific, and relevant results — even across multiple languages.
What it’s not:
This isn’t an AI search engine (although that’s coming soon!). It also doesn’t run searches — it helps form a better one. And while it’s smart, it’s still just a tool — not a replacement for human judgment. The more thoughtfully it’s used, the better it gets at helping.
Here are some ways AI Search can be used:
Use cases:
Crisis Monitoring in Multilingual Environments
An NGO tracking online discourse around an unfolding humanitarian crisis needs real-time sentiment analysis in local languages.
AI Search Role: Expands the boolean string to include keywords in relevant languages (e.g., Ukrainian, Russian, Arabic, Hebrew) and related terms that may not directly translate but have contextual significance.
Impact: Ensures comprehensive, real-time data collection for situational awareness and response planning.
Coordinated Influence Detection
An election security organization is tracking signs of coordinated disinformation campaigns targeting voter registration in US swing states.
AI Search Role: Suggests complex queries incorporating keyword variants in multiple languages, time-sensitive campaign slogans, and locations down to the country level across fringe platforms.
Impact: Enables timely messaging, flagging networks that are trying to suppress or mislead voters before election day.
Corporate Communications and Early Warnings
Use Case: A brand wants to detect false narratives or identify unlicensed use of trademarks in unofficial channels like Telegram or TikTok.
AI Search Role: Constructs queries that match on deliberate misspellings, brand nickname variants, or synonyms of negatively misleading phrases.
Impact: Speeds up detection of damaging activity and helps teams act faster to issue takedown requests and prepare messaging.
See it in action:
Researchers around the globe need innovative tooling to contextualize the nexus of on- and offline activity. This new AI Search functionality makes it that much easier to conduct research at scale.
Because of the cost associated with managing and maintaining AI Search, it is unlikely that this will be incorporated into the public/open-source version of Open Measures. Schedule a demo to find the best fit for you or your organization.
Identify disinformation and extremism with the Open Measures platform.
Organizations use Open Measures’ tooling every day to track trends related to networks of influence, coordinated harassment campaigns, and state-backed info ops.
