Closing the Book on 2025: Open Measures Retrospective
A parting glance at an exciting year for research and platform development
Happy Holidays from Open Measures. As we close out the year and take a quick break to celebrate the season with friends and family, we’re reflecting on all of our team’s big accomplishments in 2025. We published loads of new research, helped news media with big stories, and introduced new features on our platform.
In addition to everything else, this year we also passed 2,000 subscribers on this newsletter. Thanks for being here. Don’t hesitate to forward our newsletters to others.
Here’s a look back on some of the things we’re celebrating from the year.
Our Researchers Went Deep on a Wide Range of Subjects
Open Measures published 30 research articles this year, covering a wide range of topics from fresh angles. We investigated cybercrime networks, foreign influence operations, threats against public officials, narratives surrounding elections, outrage against corporate brands, and political extremist movements, among other subjects.
Here are five articles our researchers were especially proud of:
News Organizations Turned to Us for Expert Analysis
National media outlets cited Open Measures and members of our research team in their coverage of major events this year, linking to our reports and quoting our researchers across dozens of news articles and media programs. There were a few big stories we helped inform conversation about:
Charlie Kirk assassination: The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Real News Network
Nick Fuentes and the “groyper” movement: The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, New York Magazine, The Jim Acosta Show, INDiCATOR
‘Antifa’ domestic terror designation: The New York Times, NBC News, The New Republic, Bloomberg News, “Background Briefing,” “Half the Answer”
We Continued to Improve and Expand Our Platform
Our software engineers and developers pushed updates to Open Measures’ research platform that expanded its scope and offered new ways of navigating our datasets. This year, we introduced:
AI Search: a built-in tool that helps users generate targeted search strings
WhatsApp Coverage: expansion to include WhatsApp channels in our datasets
Our ‘Discover’ Tool: a unique interface for exploring unique posts across platforms
Media Functions: enhancements to how we catalog multimedia content that allow users to search the content of images, reverse-image search, and more
Keep your eyes peeled: We’ve got a lot of cool stuff in the works for 2026.
That’s it! We’ll see you in 2026.
